The second civic debate “Stories from Untoldville” was held on Sunday, 31 May via the online platform ZOOM Meetings. In the civic debate participated the BiH Student Council Network staff Majda Hidić, Ajla Mahmutović and Ermin Mandžuka together with 20 participants from various parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At the very beginning of the debate, the participants introduced themselves and got to know each other. This was followed by the main activity during which the participants had an opportunity to discuss the current topic that is most prevalent in society, the coronavirus. During the event, they expressed their views, opinions, and through constructive dialogue came to certain conclusions and gained new knowledge in certain areas. Taking into account that the participants were mostly students from the Faculty of Medicine, in addition to the professional aspect, they also expressed their personal thoughts. The current issues of young people within the country were also discussed, especially education and studies during and after the coronavirus. Participants also expressed views and opinions regarding online teaching. They discussed whether online teaching would take root to a greater extent after the epidemic in our country.
One of the main activities of the debate were ten manipulation strategies, where participants had an opportunity to work in groups and get to know each other even more and work together to reach solutions to the tasks assigned to them. They were divided into five groups. Each group had two tasks (problems) that they had to solve and present a solution to other groups, and then discuss it with other groups. It is important to point out that this exercise lasted longer than expected due to the curiosity and great interest of the participants. Participants also gave a brief overview of the reconciliation survey they filled out before the debate.
After the end of the debate and during the evaluation of participants, most of them expressed the opinion that the debate was very interesting and dynamic, and that they touched on a large number of topics in a relaxed atmosphere and through constructive dialogue. Everyone was satisfied and said that they would expect an invitation for another civic debate.
