Another civic debate in the series “Stories from Untoldville” was held on Friday, 5 June via the online platform ZOOM Meetings. Besides te mreSVUB&H staff and moderator Miloš Rajak, debate gathered 15 other young people from different parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At the very beginning, the participants introduced themselves, listed the things they wanted to talk about and which they were interested in. The main part of the debate followed. They began with a discussion on the survey that the participants were required to complete before the start of the debate. The survey referred to the participants’ views on the 1990s war in BiH and the responsibilities of its participants nowadays. However, it didn’t take long for the story to connect with the currently most current topic in the world, the coronavirus, as well as the global situation caused by the virus.
Participants were then, randomly selected and divided into five smaller groups, given a task to find an example for two specific manipulation strategies, all of which were given in the form of a Word document, just before the start of the debate. The groups were given ten minutes to find examples from their environment, region or world together, and then returned to the main room, where each group presented their examples, with comments from other participants.
After that, the last phase of the debate followed, summarizing the impressions and concluding the discussion. The participants said they were satisfied with the civic debate held, and that they were interested in more such activities with some other interesting and current topics.
